Clever approach for textile design processes
Treading new paths from time to time always broadens your own horizon. Even the great fashion designers do it the same way: innovation can only come about where traditions are broken with and creativity is allowed to run its course. Perhaps you belong to that group of fashion enthusiasts who wanted to design their own clothes for a long time but had no idea how best to put this into practice.
The question: How do I get motifs, lettering and other things safely and as hoped for on the fabric, if I am not a master of freehand drawing? The answer: with copy paper. This paper is less special than you might think before reading test reports. However, as the test will make clear, you should not confuse copy paper for textile work with the paper you need for inkjet or laser printers on your computer.
Some beginners are surprised how many different manufacturers of copy paper for transferring motifs onto textiles and other materials such as ceramics, plastic or wallpaper there are.

Especially with the copy paper of the brand “Photo Paper Direct” there is a clear statement for which purpose the paper is suitable. The same is perfectly suitable for embellishing T-shirts and other items of clothing. You can even design whole collections – maybe the jerseys for your hobby football team – without any problems and without any help. Or you can design a very special gift for friends, acquaintances and family members.
The name of the products has attracted attention. Some manufacturers also use the term “transfer paper”, which is quite rightly chosen. You must also look at the exact procedure. Some copy paper is intended for use with computers. For the first test on the PC, develop desired motifs, print them out and then transfer them for ironing onto the objects you want to embellish.
Different approaches to work management
For handicrafts such as embroidery, painting or tailoring, manufacturers often have special copy paper products in their range. In some cases, they print the products from the paper by hand on the items. Alternatively, there are products where you work with a copy wheel. You may have to order this separately in the online shop to get started. Sometimes the accessories are already included in the scope of delivery.
Tip! You can also get foil or iron-on pens or tailor’s chalk, some of which are free of charge from the manufacturer when you buy paper. With special Tailor copy paper you are well supplied in any case. Important information before buying does not only refer to the accessories, which are available free of charge.

Clarify in which format which paper is available on the market. Standard formats such as DIN A4 or A5 are appreciated by everyone. But sometimes these variants are not enough. You can order special sizes from many manufacturers without any problems. The more precisely you know what you need, the easier and more successful you will be in reading the comparison on your way to becoming a test winner. For all those who regularly use copy paper anyway, it is definitely worth buying an assortment. From five or ten sheets of paper to quantities of 100 sheets and more, a lot is possible. If you work with different materials, here is a selection of fabrics to which you can transfer sketches, writing and finished motifs, depending on the paper:

All you usually have to do: Place the copy paper on the desired surface and then use a pen or the copy wheel to transfer the finished originals. Once you have redrawn the impressions, the real work can begin. It is important to note that the transfer is mirror-inverted, especially with characters! You should therefore plan carefully before using the newly acquired copy paper!
