The new model of the Elna eXperience 520 is fast, easy and clearly arranged. It is a computer sewing machine with free arm. This machine is ideal for advanced sewers as well as for sewing beginners of practically any age. It can not only be used for designing, but also for spicing up different garments. It has only been on the market since February 2012.
What is the scope of delivery?
A box is supplied to store the accessories of the Elna eXperience 520. Furthermore a dust cover and free standard accessories are included. These are in detail needles, a seam separator, various sewing feet, several bobbins and a screwdriver.
Which functions are offered?
The Elna eXperience 520 sewing machine can sew any type of fabric without any problems. The creation of very personal and individual clothing is very easy. With this computer sewing machine every idea and style is possible. With practical 30 different sewing and decoration programs, buttonholes, patchwork and quilting programs, it is very feature-rich.
It can be used to sew 6 different types of buttonholes for all occasions. For example, these are the jeans buttonhole and the classic eyelet buttonhole. The optimum stitch length and width can be selected automatically. The stitch length is adjustable up to 5 mm, while the stitch width can be adjusted up to 7 mm. The built-in needle threader is ideal. The needles have the highest piercing power in all possible fabrics, for example also in denim. The thread tension can be adjusted manually.
The existing thread separator guarantees an easy and simple automatic cutting of the thread end after completion of the sewing work. The bobbin winder is automatically released by hand wheel. The hem tension lines are indicated in inches and millimetres on the housing. The functions also include the jam-free and oil-free double circulation hook. A pleasant krypton sewing light illuminates the sewing work extensively.
A particularly practical and useful function is to sew the eye buttonhole – the so-called “tailor’s buttonhole” – without any problems. Professionals sew on the button with a handle in thicker materials, such as blazers, jackets or coats. The eyelet buttonhole is then sewn to match. With the Elna eXperience 520, buttonholes can be sewn in exactly the same way as those of professionals. In addition, this machine has 5 more buttonhole variations at hand, for example the elastic buttonhole or the piping buttonhole.
Whichever buttonhole the seamstress chooses, all buttonholes are made quickly, easily and safely with the 1-step automatic buttonhole machine. With the automatic backtacking system any seam can be sewn quickly and neatly. The automatic tamping program helps to mend clothes cleanly and quickly.
How is the handling?
The Elna eXperience 520 sewing machine has selection keys and a screen. This can be used to select the needle stop position. Automatic sewing works from above or below. At the beginning as well as at the end of the work, it is possible to bartack the seam with the reverse sewing button. This is done by means of 4 program selection keys, which are clearly arranged in the sewing area.
The LED screen displays the number of the currently selected program, its width and length. The foot pressure can be adjusted individually. A limitation of the maximum sewing speed is also given. The electronic foot control ensures maximum power, even when sewing slowly. This is especially advantageous for a sewing beginner.
The stitch package of the Elna eXperience 520 is equipped with 30 practical and useful sewing programs. With the electronic speed control, this machine sews even thick denim material, stitch by stitch. The stitch program is selected with only three buttons. The three function keys are perfectly placed. Directly above the sewing point they are always in the seamstress’ view.
Sewing is done automatically by tapping the middle button. The lower button stands for backward sewing. On request, the stitch size can be adjusted. 4 direct selection keys are available for the most important sewing programs. Upper key: needle automatically stays up or in the fabric.
How is the processing?
The case is very robust and durable, we don’t find this in the manufacturer’s specifications as above, but in the reviews on Amazon. The Elna eXperience 520 is therefore very well protected against damage.
Price/Performance
In its price class of 444 Euros, the Elna eXperience 520 is a reasonably priced sewing machine when you consider its many functions and other decorative, utility, quilting and patchwork seams. The Elna eXperience 520 is therefore one of the most affordable and powerful universal talents for hobby sewing.
